Topic and Main Idea

The topic of the article is that there was a tragedy in Kenya and we didn't really care about it until the attack in Paris.
The main idea for the first paragraph is that "Several people quickly found an article on the attack by the British Broadcasting Corp."
The main idea for the second paragraph is that "Many people feel that we react to terrible events differently on whom the victims are."
The main idea for the third paragraph is "People are more likely to care when terrible things happen to people and place to which they feel close."
The main idea for the fourth paragraph is " It is that closeness to Paris that made so many Americans express their sadness and shock on Facebook and Twitter."

Author's POV+Purpose

1) What is the author's point of view?
The author's point of view is that people should care about the attack on Kenya. In the text it says "The attack in Kenya was just as terrible as what happened in Paris." Another evidence is "It does not matter that we do not have vacation photos taken in Kenya or Beirut. We do not get to ignore the horrible killings in those places." Another piece of evidence is "However, that does not mean it is right for us to care less." To not care less about Kenya. More people cared about Paris than Kenya.
2) Do you agree or disagree with the author's point of view? Why?
I agree because I think that we should care about what happened in Kenya. The reason I think that is because there was a lot of people killed.
3) What is the author's purpose?
The author's purpose is to persuade because it's trying to persuade you that you should care about Kenya. "For that reason is understandable that Americans did not react much to the killings in those places."
